Kaibigan ng Lāhaina
Kaibigan ng Lāhaina, which translates to "Friend of Lāhaina" in Tagalog, is a nonprofit organization that emerged to support the Filipino and immigrant community in Lāhaina following the devastating wildfires of August 8, 2023.
The organization required a website that not only served as a functional space for community resources but also resonated with a diverse audience. Our goal was to design a platform that would be intuitive for those who are less tech-savvy while maintaining a modern aesthetic to engage a younger demographic. The result is a user-friendly website that seamlessly integrates essential services and information, reflecting the vibrant spirit of Lāhaina's community. We are honored to collaborate as a community partner with Kaibigan ng Lāhaina.

It was important to capture a harmonious blend of Filipino culture and the unique essence of Lāhaina, steering clear of clichés. Central to this vision was the incorporation of textures reminiscent of "sawali," a traditional Filipino bamboo matting.
We designed textures inspired by various types of weaves, which we layered over the brand's colors. This approach not only imbues the website with a tactile quality but also honors the rich cultural heritage of the Filipino community.
We integrated elements from their logo, including Pa'upa'u, the mountain prominently featuring the "L" carved into its side, symbolizing Lahainaluna High School. On the homepage, we highlighted the sun-shaped logo ascending above the mountain, embodying the organization's resilience in the face of challenges.
We rotated the "L" to resemble an arrow and a heart shape, which also functions as a scroll indicator for users navigating the website.
On the About page, we utilized the mountain motif as a background element to introduce Kaibigan ng Lāhaina's origin, mission, vision statements, and core values.
This thematic continuity not only reinforces the organization's identity but also provides a visual narrative that grounds visitors in the essence of the organization’s journey, mission, and commitment to the community.
